The estimate provided above uses Xcel Energy's Minnesota, North Dakota or Wisconsin residential natural gas rates as selected. We used a weighted winter average amount per therm for two years ending March 2021:
Your savings estimate includes approximate natural gas therms based on your input of propane or fuel oil. Also included in the calculation are the monthly Basic Service Charge and the monthly Extension Surcharge or New Area Surcharge where appropriate. The estimate for Barnesville includes a 5% franchise fee, which is charged monthly as a "city fee" and paid to the city quarterly.

Minnesota customers: In mid-February 2021, extreme and prolonged cold in Minnesota and across the country caused a substantial increase in demand for natural gas. Combined with weather-related natural gas supply limitations, this resulted in a large short-term increase in natural gas commodity prices. Natural gas costs are passed directly to customers without markup. For residential natural gas customers, a surcharge to cover these costs is expected to last through December of 2023.
