Choose your state

Our products and services differ based on state. Please select your state (or the state you're interested in) from the list to the left.

Why do our products and services differ based on state? Because our business is regulated by state. We have regulated operations in eight Western and Midwestern states. The different regulatory body for each state we serve determines what products and services we deliver in that state.

Refrigerator Recycling - CO

Refrigerator Recycling

Colorado customers can save $100 yearly on energy bills by recycling your inefficient fridges and freezers

Overview

Save your wallet and the environment with Xcel Energy’s Refrigerator Recycling program. And get a $50 thank-you check for recycling that old, energy guzzling fridge or freezer and letting us haul it away.

Benefits

  • Prevent emissions of green house gases and ozone-depleting refrigerants by preventing their release from refrigerants and insulating foams found in freezers and fridges
  • Recycle metals, plastics and glass, saving landfill space and energy
  • Save up to $100 a year in energy costs by reducing your consumption
  • Save space in your garage or basement for your car, lawnmowers and more
  • Get $50 for letting us haul your refrigerator or freezer away for free!

Who Qualifies

To participate in the Xcel Energy Refrigerator Recycling program you must:

  • Be a residential electricity customer of Xcel Energy living in Colorado
  • Provide a valid Xcel Energy account number
  • Have the appliance picked up from the residential address listed on your billing account
  • Own the refrigerator and/or freezer you are recycling
  • Must be an operational refrigerator or a standalone freezer;
  • Operational is defined as in working order. All units must be capable of cooling/freezing and the ability to make ice.
  • Refrigerators must be plugged in the night before the pick-up date. The unit must demonstrate full operational capability when inspected at the time of pick up
  • Only recycle two refrigerators and/or freezers per program year, per household.

The refrigerator/freezer to be recycled must be 10-30 cubic feet. Most miniature and commercially-sized refrigerators do not qualify. Freezers must be a standalone unit.
