Lighting Efficiency Rebates

Helping Colorado businesses save money, earn cash back and improve lighting efficiency

Overview

Rebates are available for a wide variety of lighting projects and applications including:

  • Retrofits of existing systems with high-efficiency equipment
  • Reductions in lamp quantity with high-efficiency fixture upgrades
  • Installations in a new building
  • Custom applications
  • Lighting redesign studies, and implementation of recommended measures

Small businesses with peak demand of 400kW or less are eligible for a free lighting assessment and energy-saving recommendations. Visit the Small Business Lighting page for more information.

Details

Choose from five ways to lower your lighting costs and earn rebates:

  1. Lighting retrofit rebates – Available for existing facilities of any size, these rebates offset the cost of installing new, more efficient lighting than what you currently have.
  2. New construction lighting rebates – Available for new facilities or those going through major renovations, we reward you for choosing more efficient lighting than standard options.
  3. Custom Efficiency lighting rebates – Available for energy-saving lighting projects not included in our prescriptive rebate program. Requires preapproval before equipment purchase and installation.
  4. Lighting redesign studies and rebates – Can help determine the proper lighting levels for your space. We help fund studies and offer cash rebates of up to $400 per kW saved when you make recommended changes. Requires preapproval.
  5. Small Business Lighting - Available for existing small and mid-sized facilities that have a peak demand of 400 kW or less. Our lighting consultant, Franklin Energy, will conduct a free lighting assessment of your facility and recommend lighting efficiency measures. Who Qualifies

Customers with a valid Xcel Energy business account in our Colorado electric service territory.

Qualifying Equipment

Please read through the individual applications below for participation qualifications and equipment eligibility.

Qualifying equipment includes:

  • High-efficiency fluorescent T8 systems
  • High-bay fluorescent systems, replacing high intensity discharge (HID) systems
  • Low watt T8 lamps: 28W or 25W
  • CFL fixtures replacing incandescent systems that use three to five times more energy
  • Occupancy and daylighting sensors
  • ENERGY STAR®-qualified interior LED screw-in or pin-based lamps, and interior LED downlight luminaires, replacing incandescent or halogen systems that use three to six times more energy
  • LED wall pack fixtures
  • Parking garage T8 Lamps
  • LED cooler and freezer case strip lighting (for five and six foot doors)1 replacing less efficient fluorescent systems
  • Exterior LED canopy or soffit fixtures1 replacing HID systems that use three to six times the energy
  • T12 to T8 optimization retrofits

Note: Efficient lighting equipment not listed on the prescriptive rebate applications may be eligible for a Custom Efficiency rebate (preapproval is required).

How to Get Started

Additional Information

Rebate applications for 2012 T12 lighting upgrades were due on 5/1/2013. Qualifying equipment must have been invoiced and installed on or before 12/31/2012; applications must be have submitted within 12 months of the invoice date or no later than 5/1/2013, whichever came first. Prescriptive optimization rebates for T12 retrofits are available as of 5/1/2013. Please reference program rules on the application for additional information.

All other T12 fixtures upgrades may still qualify for a rebate through our Custom Efficiency program. Custom T12 projects preapproved prior to 12/31/2012 have until 11/30/2013 to be installed, invoiced, and submitted. Projects requiring re-evaluation will use standard efficiency T8 as the baseline going forward, standard efficiency T8 fixture will be used as the baseline.

Customers had until 5/1/2013 to submit completed applications for LED projects invoiced and installed before 1/1/2013 to claim the higher rebate amount.
