Choose your state

Our products and services differ based on state. Please select your state (or the state you're interested in) from the list to the left.

Why do our products and services differ based on state? Because our business is regulated by state. We have regulated operations in eight Western and Midwestern states. The different regulatory body for each state we serve determines what products and services we deliver in that state.

A - D

Account Number
The company’s account number with Xcel Energy for electric service. Please refer to this number when requesting information about your account or when making any payments. Please note that this number recently changed due to the conversion to our new customer information system.
Amount Due
This is the total amount due for your account at time of billing. The total may include: electric service plus any additional products and services you subscribe to for which you may incur a charge. Please read through your bill for a complete explanation of charges.
Balance Forward
This reflects the dollar amount still owed to Xcel Energy from previous billing statements if they were not paid in full.
Base Fuel
The portion of the total cost of fuel that is included in the base rates. There is a monthly Fuel Cost Adjustment that is included on the bill so that the total amount recovered represents the actual cost of the fuel. Therefore, the total fuel cost is the Base Fuel plus the Fuel Cost Adjustment.
Billed Demand
Demand billing covers the cost of maintaining extra generating capacity so we can meet your peak demand at any time during the month. Your bill is based on a lower rate per kWh and an additional “demand” charge for the number of kilowatts your company used at its highest 30-minute period of usage during the month. To calculate: Reading on electric meter x the Multiplier = Billed Demand.
CS - Commercial Service
Electric rate for small commercial customers. This is the rate charged if your company consistently uses less than 10 kilowatts (kW) of power at its highest usage point during the month. Your charges with this rate are based solely on how much electricity in kilowatt-hours (kWh) you use each month. To qualify for this rate, your highest 30 minutes of kilowatts used during the billing period must be at, or below, 10 kW.
Comparison Information
Compares usage and average daily temperature for same billing period of the previous year.
Current Balance
This is the total dollar amount due to Xcel Energy at this time. This includes any balances still owed at time of billing plus new charges for this billing cycle.
Current Bill
Total dollar amount due for electric services for this billing period only.
Current Reading
The end dial positions on your meter(s) used to calculate actual energy usage. The number is entered into our system either manually or by using an upload file from a hand-held or electronic meter reading device. The date indicates when the usage reading was uploaded to our billing system. Please note that the upload date is typically a day or two after the actual reading is taken.
Customer Name
The name on your Xcel Energy account and the person or legal entity considered responsible for payment of the bill.
Date of Bill
The date that your bill was prepared.
Distribution Service
The cost of electric service related to delivering the electricity from the neighborhood substation to your meter.
Due Date
Date by which we must receive payment in order for your account to stay current. Please note that your bill is overdue if payment is not received by this date and will incur late charges.

Franchise Fee
Xcel Energy has franchise agreements with the cities and towns where we provide electricity service. These agreements give us rights to use the municipality’s alleys, streets and rights-of-way so we can, for example, run power lines along city property. As part of the franchise agreements, Xcel Energy collects a franchise fee from our customers and pays that money to the cities and towns. The franchise fee is not a tax but a portion of the cost to operate a utility. The franchise fee is a separate line on your bill and is based on a percentage of your electricity bills.
Fuel Cost Factor
This is the cost of fuel to generate electricity that is a straight pass-through to you. Electric utilities calculate the total cost for fuel sources to generate electricity each month. Charges for fuel sources, such as natural gas, coal, wind and purchased power are passed on to you. We are only allowed by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) to recover the costs for the fuel used to generate electricity and are prohibited from making a profit on the fuel costs. The NMPRC reviews the monthly fuel cost factors.
GS - General Service
Electric rate for small commercial customers. This is the rate charged if your company consistently uses more than 10 kilowatts of power at its highest usage point during the month. This is your demand. Your charges with this rate are generally based on how much electricity in kilowatt-hours (kWh) you use each month. To qualify for this rate, your highest 30 minutes of kilowatts used during the billing period must be above 10 kW.
Generation Service
The portion of the cost of electric service related to the generation resources that produce the electricity.
Kilowatt-Hour Used
A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a unit of energy or work equal to one kilowatt for one hour. One thousand watts on for one hour is equal to one kWh. It is a measure of energy consumption and is the normal unit used for metering and billing electricity customers. To calculate: Current Reading minus Previous Reading x Multiplier = Kilowatt-Hours Used.
IIP - Interruptible Irrigation
Electric rate for Irrigation customers, on request and under contract. Customers sign-up to have their electric service interrupted, if needed, during peak electric system times. Initial three-year contract is required.
Invoice Number
Represents Xcel Energy invoicing for one service for a particular billing period.
IP - Irrigation
Electric rate, under contract, for irrigation power when the connected motor load is not less than 5 horsepower.
Measured Demand
Measured Demand is the maximum rate at which electricity is used in kilowatts within a 30-minute interval during each billing period as recorded by the meter.
Measured Usage (electric)
The actual electricity usage, or kilowatts, as measured by your electric meter in a billing period.
Meter Number
The serial number located on the face of the electric meter.
Multiplier
The Multiplier is a fixed value and specific to the design of a given meter. It is used to calculate exact electric usage and varies according to building design and the total electricity requirements of the facility.
Non-Metered Service
At times, your business may be charged for your share of the cost of supplying electricity to lights and/or pieces of equipment that are not attached to a meter. Some examples include: streetlights in unincorporated areas, traffic lights, and area lights (lights you have requested).
Number of Payments Received
Number of payments that we received for your account for the previous billing cycle.
Number of Days in Billing Period
Number of days of electricity service for which you are being billed.

O - Z

This reflects the dollar amount that was due on your previous bill.
The dial positions on your electric meter at the end of last month’s billing cycle used to calculate actual energy usage. This number reflects the reading on your electric meter on the indicated date for the previous billing period.
Rate
The price for the electricity service under the rate schedule. All rates are approved by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.
Sales Tax
Reflects the appropriate state, city, and county required sales taxes on your electricity charges, due in dollars.
Service Address
Address for which Xcel Energy is billing you. For customers with more than one premise, the term “Summary Page” appears here to indicate that the page is a summary of multiple premises. Summary pages are followed by individual premise detail pages.
Statement Number
This number identifies all the invoice numbers for each of your services for an individual statement.
Svc Availability
This is a flat fee applied each month regardless of the amount of kilowatt-hours (kWh) used. This charge is intended to cover the minimum cost of supplying electricity service for your rate class. It covers meter reading, equipment, and customer service.
Total Amount of Payments
This reflects the dollar amount that we received prior to this billing statement.
Transmission Service
The cost of delivering the electricity from the generating resource (transmission facilities) to your neighborhood substation.
